Monkey in city airport terminal for 24 hours!

Published on:

The Biju Patnaik International Airport authorities here were under great stress for over 24 hours as a monkey that entered into the truss of the new terminal of the airport on Thursday night could not be easily driven out until a tranquilisation team of the Nandankanan Zoo caught hold of it late on Friday evening.

Airport and Forest Department personnel had initially administered anaesthetic drugs and bananas laced with sedatives to the monkey. But that didn’t have any effect on the animal. Even spreading of a special net to bring the simian down could not work.

The animal remained ensconced on a grill hanging from the rooftop of the terminal, blissfully oblivious of all the commotion below.

Keeping the safety of air passengers in mind, some airport personnel were seen chasing the monkey when it kept jumping from one beam to another on the rooftop.
