An 18-year-old girl committed suicide at Rajgangpur area under Sundargarh district after she was allegedly molested by her cousin brother-in-law on Friday. The police arrested the accused and forwarded him to court on Saturday.
Sources said Gita Thakur (18) resides in Kalakani village of Maldihi Panchayat under Rajgangpur police station. On Friday afternoon at around 4 pm, she was going for bath in a river, when her brother-in-law Sitaram Sanyasi (35) waylaid and tried to molest her. Gita opposed his advances and ran away from the spot to inform her cousin sister Manbati. While Gita narrated the act of Sitaram, Sitaram reached there and both Sitaram and Manbati rebuked Gita. But the unsavoury act of Sitaram had shaken Gita, following which she went her home and at around 4.30 pm, hanged herself. Gita’s brother Ramji later lodged an FIR in Rajgangpur police station.
