Efforts are on to renew an old demand for a sub-division comprising hilly part of Gajapati district. A meeting in this regard was held here on Friday. The supporters for the Mohana sub-division alleged that the district administration was showing apathy towards the development of the hilly part. Social activist Rabi Rathan leads the movement.
‘Mohana Sub-Division Steering Committee’ was formed long back for a new sub division in Mohana. Rathan said different organisations like Mulanivasi Mancha, Gajapati Integration Forum for Transformation and all political party members of the locality were supporting the movement. In the past the committee had launched a campaign and also distributed pamphlets, posters and held meetings in support of the demand. Rathan said the same would be done once again.
The people of rural area of Mohana block travel over 250 km to reach the district administration taking two days for official work. They have to take another two days again to reach back the village. So, there is justification for a sub-division comprising the hilly part of the district like R Udayagiri, Nuagada, Rayagada and Mohana blocks, said Rathan.
