Modi Govt can’t maintain public assets: Congress

Published on:

The Congress slammed the Narendra Modi Government’s current plan to monetise the public sector assets by transferring their ownership to a handpicked crony capitalists.

Addressing a Press conference here, former AICC general secretary Mohan Prakashji, PCC in-charge Dr Chellakumar, joint In-charge Rudra Raju, PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, senior leader and Balangir MLA Narasingh Mishra, PCC working president Pradip Majhi told that the property of the nation created over last 67 years was being squandered away by the Modi Government. They said, “Recall the Rs 100 lakh crore NIP (National Infrastructure Pipeline) that has been announced by the PM thrice --on August 15, 2019, August 15, 2020 and August 15, 2021-- without a brick of infrastructure being laid in the last two years.

It is fairly certain that the rents collected will be spent for that and if there is any surplus, the money will be spent on vanity projects like bullet trains, central vista, new Parliament building, new aircraft for the PM.”

Dubbing the Government and its chosen bureaucrats as incompetent to maintain and utilise public sector assets like railway, roads, ports, gas pipelines, transmission lines, telcom towers, stadia etc, the Congress said if the Modi Government succeeds in its plan, the public assets will not be available to the nation or its future generations for long lease period of 30 to 50 years while opportunities for India’s poor, SC, ST, OBC in shape of reservation in jobs or investment in underdeveloped areas will be finished.
