An ultramodern cancer hospital would be set up at the NISER campus in Bhubaneswar at an investment of Rs 650 crore, said Union Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday.

The hospital would be established by joint efforts of the Union Government’s Atomic Energy Department and the Tata Trust, he informed, adding that the Centre would spend Rs 400 crore and the Tata Trust Rs 250 crore for the project, which would be completed in three years.

He said the matter was discussed at a meeting with Union Minister of State for Science Dr Jitendra Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The NISER has already provided 17 acres of land for the proposed hospital while the Union Skill Development Ministry would provide 10 acres, Pradhan said.

The Tata Trust would build the hospital and then transfer it to the Central Government, he informed.
