Modern bus port to come up at Khan Nagar

Published on:

With a move to decongest the Millennium City of Cuttack and provide better service to the citizens, the State Government has decided to establish an ultramodern bus port near Khan Nagar.

In order to survey the area and take on-the-spot decision,  5T Secretary VK Pandian along with a team of officials visited the area in the wee hours of March 10.

Pandian was happy to take stock of the matter as the State Government will soon take up the job on a priority basis.

Works Secretary Krishan Kumar presented the model for development and structures to come up in the area.

Dr Kumar along with his team earlier made a survey and assessed the requirement, said sources. CMD OSRTC Arun Bothra, RDC Central Division Anil Samal among others were present. The OSRTC will be developing the Cuttack bus stand to next level as Badambadi bus stand is unable to cater to the growing requirement of the public. It has not only been very much congested but also during peak hours, it is posing a serious problem for movement of vehicles and passengers.

While plans are afoot to improve the Millennium City in a big way with world class medical college and hospital in SCB, setting up of ring road and other facilities, establishing an ultra modern bus stand is also on cards.

Earlier, there was a plan for inter State bus port at Gopalpur and accordingly, the State Government agreed to provide land. Somehow, it has not taken off and now move is on to set up a new bus port near Khan Nagar, while acquiring some more areas for the facility.
