The Commissionerate police on Thursday busted an inter-State mobile tower battery theft racket here and arrested six persons in this connection.
All the accused are residents of West Bengal. The cops also seized mobile tower and vehicle batteries worth around Rs 10 lakh from three vehicles in the Mancheswar area here. On receiving information that old batteries were being loaded on three vehicles, a Mancheswar police team conducted a raid and detained two trucks with ‘On Army Duty’ logos and a pickup van.
During, search; the cops seized 1,700 batteries from the vehicles. It is suspected that the gang targeted unguarded mobile towers in Brahampur and Nayagarh areas and stole the batteries, said zone ACP Sanjeeb Satapathy.
