Mobile phone bridges Govt-farmer gap

Published on:

Innovative use of mobile phones has not only helped reduce information gap between the State Government and the stakeholders at remote locations but has brought double bonanza for innovators.

Take the example of the Mobile Governance Project for Streamlining Paddy Procurement Operations in Odisha, which has not only served the very purpose of bridging information gap to the maximum extent but also bagged two awards recognising the worth and utility of such a e-governance initiative.

The project received the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence and Best G2G Project of the Year at 10th e-India Event held recently in Thiruvananthapuram, capital city of Kerala.

Odisha, being a major paddy-producing state, was facing constant problems for procurement of the produce as farmers were in far-flung zones and to monitor the programme in absence of real time information was a herculean task.
