Police mobile app Mo Saathi saved a college girl from eve-teasers before any untoward incident took place here on Sunday.
Although no case was registered in any police station, the incident sent a positive message about the functioning of mobile applications launched by the Commissionerate police.
According to sources, some youths passed lewd comments to the girl while she was moving on the Hitech College road under the Mancheswar police limits in the afternoon. The girl contacted the police using the Mo Saathi mobile app. An SMS was sent to the girl’s family and the police control room immediately following the complaint through the app on Smartphone.
On being informed, the Mancheswar police rushed the spot. Earlier, the girl’s family had arrived at Hitech Square after getting the SMS and they had informed about it to the police.
However, the eve-teasers had already fled the place before the girl’s family and the police reached there.
Notably, the Commissionerate police of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar had launched the Mo Saathi mobile app on June 15, 2015 for safety of women in the twin cities. Since then, only 1,140 women have availed the service so far out of more than 5,000 applicants.
