Tension prevailed in Dharmasala Community Health Centre (CHC) in the district on Monday following the death of a woman patient after delivering a baby.
Sources said the woman reportedly had excessive bleeding after delivery due to which she was referred to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. However, she lost her life while she was being shifted to Cuttack.
Soon after this, family members of the deceased woman ransacked hospital property as well as the chamber of a doctor alleging that she died due to medical negligence.
“She was fine when we took her to the hospital. The doctor gave her pain killer injection after which she gave birth. They must have cut her vein due to which there was excessive bleeding,” alleged a relative of the deceased, Prabhat Kumar Behera.
Reacting to the allegations, CHC doctor Manas Ranjan Swain said, “By the time they brought the woman, it was already quite late. So, naturally we referred her to Cuttack. And then all of a sudden, a few men entered my chamber and damaged the hospital property. I have sustained minor injuries as a drip stand hit me.”
