Two robbers were lynched and another was injured by an angry mob while they were attempting to flee after committing robbery in the Canara Bank at Kasanda under the Ranpur police station in Nayagarh district on Wednesday. According to reports, three bike-borne armed robbers at around 3 in the afternoon attacked Purna Chandra Jena, the security guard, and looted `3 lakh. They were overpowered by locals while they were trying to flee the spot after the looting.
later, the locals thrashed the robbers to death while another was seriously injured. The injured robber was admitted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital here. The identities of the dacoits were yet to be ascertained.
Police on being informed by the bank authorities reached the spot and seized `3 lakh along with a live bomb from the robbers. The police were investigating the matter on the basis of the bank’s CCTV footage.
“Prima facie, it appears that the dacoits attacked the public on being restrained from looting and then were beaten by the public...,” said Nayagarh SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.
