An mob on Sunday damaged a police jeep at Hariabahal slum here protesting police brutality on one fellow resident Joginder Ray, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital here after being allegedly beaten up by the police.
However, the police have refuted the charge. “On being informed that Joginder Ray of C-384, Sector-16 and Ganesh Bhadra of Ward-12 were indulging in a brawl at the Railway colony, the police rushed to the spot and found both to be drunk.
The police took Joginder into the jeep. On the way to the police station, Joginder jumped from the jeep and was injured,” Rourkela Additional SP Santosh Mohanty said.
On the other hand, the local residents alleged that while more than half-a-dozen illegal country liquor shops are running in and around the slum, the police have remained mum taking bribe from the shop owners.
