MlA Mahakud may be summoned

Independent Champua MlA Sanatan Mahakud’s son Pankaj Mahakud on Monday recorded his statement at the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court here in connection with a harassment case filed against him and his father by one Kavita Mahakud, who claimed to be his wife.

Meanwhile, sources said the MlA too can come into the probe purview and may be summoned by the court to record his statement as Kavita levelled harassment charge against him.

The statement of Pankaj was recorded under Section 164 of CrPC at the court. The MlA’s son, who had come by a SUV along with bouncers, did not talk to the waiting mediapersons over the issue after emerging from the court.

The woman had filed the case at the Mahila police station here against the MlA and his son and son-in-law Dinabandhu Barik on March 1 and recorded her statement on March 4 and urged the police to summon the MlA and his son to the police station for questioning.

However, the Mahila police station IIC and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Bijayanee Malla had visited the MlA’s house in Champua in Keonjhar district to record Pankaj’s statement as he did not comply with the summons, sparking a controversy.

Commissioner of Police YB Khurania too came down heavily on the lady officer and sought an explanation for visiting an offender’s house.
