Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA and former Minister Bishnu Charan Das passed away at private Apollo Hospitals here at 7:50 pm on Monday. The 67-year-old Tirtol legislator had been hospitalised on June 22 after he suffered brain stroke. He was suffering from various ailments.
Das was elected to the State Assembly six times, five times from Jagatsinghpur and last time from Tirtol.
He was also elected to Rajya Sabha in 2016. He resigned as the Rajya Sabha member in 2017 after being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and leaders cutting across party lines deeply mourned Das’ demise.
