Suspended BJP MlA Bhimsen Choudhury on Sunday joined the Congress in New Delhi in the presence of PCC president Jayadev Jena, Union Minister Srikant Jena and newly-elected Rajya Sabha member Ranjib Biswal. Choudhury was reportedly believed to have voted for Biswal in the recently-held Rajya Sabha polls.

Choudhury, who is the Bonei MlA, told the media, “I was in the Congress between 1974 and 1994. later, I joined the BJP. Now, I have returned to my own party and decided to work for the party.”

Choudhury was suspended from the BJP for disobeying the party whip during the Rajya Sabha elections in 2010. His return to the BJP was reportedly not possible due to obstacles created by the party’s national vice-president Jual Oram. After being suspended from the BJP, Choudhury had formed a self-styled outfit ‘Bhim Sena’ and fielded rebel candidates against the party for Zilla Parishad seats in 2012.
