MKCG mess: Brahmapur Manch holds demo

Published on:

The members of the Manav Adhikar Surakshya Manch (MASM), a socio-cultural organisation, took out a rally  and staged demonstration before the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

They demanded dismissal of the college Principal, Dean and the Superintendent for reportedly permitting the medical staffers to celebrate a feast in the new Obstrastics and Gynecology building/Ward of the college recently.

Notably, a pregnant woman who came to the college seeking healthcare for delivery was reportedly denied a bed on the ground of non availability in the gynecology ward which forced the patient to deliver her child in the hospital verandah. The incident irked the local public.

The Manch demanded exemplary action against the doctors who neglect the treatment of patients and frequently remain absent on their duties, make the trauma center functional, establishment of CT scan  and digital X-Ray machine and filling up of all the posts of doctors, nurses, and technicians which are lying vacant.

The Manch also alleged that the Government was only constructing new buildings in the medical premises in the name of expansion of healthcare services, but neither made these huge buildings functional nor arranged the required infrastructure at place to meet the emerging healthcare needs of the region.

It alleged that most of the senior doctors were neglecting patients in the hospitals and practicing in different private nursing homes.

“If the Government does not take action, our agitation will be intensified further,” the Manch cautioned.  Convenor Abani Kumar Gaya led the agitation. Among others, Amar Sahu, Suryakanta Patra, Maguni Nahak Tarini Patra, Bansidhar Bhuyan and  Prasant Das were present.
