A dead body of a woman, who was missing from village Dara in Simulia of Baleswar district, was fished out of a pond on Sunday. The victim Kunilata Nayak (35) was missing since Friday evening.
The body was tied with metal chips and stuffed in a gunny bag. The villagers, who spotted the body, suspect her husband Dhanesar Nayak of murdering her as he has gone absconding.
According to reports, the couple had a marital discord and the neighbours didn’t see them from Friday and found their house locked.
Smelling something fishy the neighbours informed the parents of the deceased. After frantic searches proved futile, they informed the police. When the bag was opened they found the body tied with chips and metals.
It is suspected that Kuni was killed by her husband and to hide the crime and destroy evidence he dumped the body in the pond.
The Simulia police after reaching the spot seized the body and sent it for postmortem.
Further investigation by police was in progress and they have launched a manhunt to nab the husband.
