A body of a minor girl, who had gone missing on Thursday, was recovered from a well in the Raighar area of Nabarangpur district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Jharana Gond (16), daughter of Asaram Gond of Khutugaon village.
Jharana went missing from her house in the evening. The girl’s family failed to trace her whereabouts despite launching a frantic search, sources added.
However, Jharana’s body was found floating in a well in a farmland near Khutugaon in the morning. On being informed, police with the help of Fire Services personnel recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.
A forensic team was called in to assist the police in the investigation.
“The postmortem report will reveal the exact reason behind the girl’s death,” said police .
The victim’s family alleged that someone might have killed her and dumped her body in the well.
