Finally, a 59 -year- old fisherman, who went on missing since 2010 in sea, got reunited with his family members after a span of six years on Monday last.
To see the reunion among the family members, locals congregated at the house in Tikayatnagar village under Talachua gram panchayat.
If sources are to be believed, one Kahnu Jena of Tikayatnagar in 2010 went with his seven other fellow fishermen in a Dhamara-bound mechanised fishing boat to the Bay of Bengal to catch fish. But as ill luck would have it, the boat capsized in the deep sea due to rough weather and turbulent sea. later, though seven fishermen managed to rescue their life, but Kahnu went missing. A rescue operation was organised by the fishermen and Coast Guard personnel, but in vain to trace out his whereabouts in the sea. Having lost hope, the family members later forgot about Kanhu.
Basanti Jena, the wife of Kahnu, later faced lots of hardships to collect bread for her five children, including two sons.
“I had lost hope that I would not be able to see my husband once again. We had taken it for granted that Kahnu is no more. In last six years, he had never contacted us. But thanks God, my husband returned,” said Basanti with tears rolling out from eyes.
On Monday, Kahnu was found sitting at Red Cross veranda in Talachua. When the message spread in the locality that Kanhu returned to the village, the family members rushed to the spot and identified him. However, Kahnu failed to identify his family members as he had lost his mental balance and became insane, said Basanti.
