An official of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) posted here, who has gone missing since Monday, was still untraceable on Wednesday, posing a challenge to the Commissionerate Police to track the officer.

The officer, Ibrahim Sharif from Karnataka and working as an Assistant Mines Controller of the IBM, has been staying with his family at Nigam Vihar in Phase-II of Kanan Vihar in the city. He has been untraceable after he left for his office at 10 am on Monday, his wife Salma Begum said in her FIR filed at the Infocity police station here at 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

The scooter used by Sharif was found parked in front of the Aditya Care hospital, sources said, adding that there is no trace of him yet.

“When he didn’t come home for lunch on Monday, we rang up him and found his mobile switched off,” said Sharif’s father-in-law Khasni Pir, adding, “We even tried his office telephone, but his office people informed that Sharif was absent.”

Sources said Sharif had been receiving threats from some unidentified people over the past few days, something that has led many to believe he could have been abducted.

“Reason of Sharif’s missing is yet to be ascertained. Even his wife cannot tell the exact cause. We are investigating into the matter,” said Twin City Police Commissioner RP Sharma.

When contacted, the Infocity police said they were trying to find out   Sharif’s whereabouts. “His mobile phone is switched off, for which we cannot trace him. But our investigation is on to trace him out,” said Infocity police station IIC Bijayini Singh.
