The Sahadevkhunta police, after arresting three persons, including a block staff, in connection with the missing cheques of the Baleswar Sadat block office forwarded them to court on Wednesday.
The arrested persons are Sadar block accountant Birakishor Prusty and Baleswar Bhadrak Central Cooperative Bank (BBCC) staffs Chandrakanta Sahu and Sanjay Pradhan. It may be noted that 70 cheque leaves were found missing from the Sadar block cheque books recently. Two of them were deposited for collection from the SBI, one amounting to Rs 37.5 lakh and the other Rs 64.5 lakh. The SBI dishonoured the cheques due to insufficient balance. Police revealed that the accounts opened in the BBCC and Andhra Bank in the name of one Saroj Bhoi were fake ones and there was no person as Saroj Bhoi in the village Haripur, which was given in the banks during opening of the accounts.
