Opposition Congress on Thursday severely pulled up the State Government for the rise in cases relating to violence against women and cybercrimes.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the State Assembly, Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mishra quoted a National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report and said, “It is very shocking that Odisha is second in violence against women and first in cyber crime cases.
A total of 11,318 women were molested in the State in 2019 and 1,485 cyber crime related cases were reported in 2019 as compared to 843 in 2018.” He raised the woman molestation case Balangir Covid care centre again in the House.
“A deputed doctor molested a woman in a Covid facility in Balangir. People beat the concerned doctor severely. Police conducted medical examination on the doctor.
But later the entire incident was vanished,” Mishra said, demanding a statement from the Government as to why the police didn’t take any action.
To this, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro directed the Health and Family Welfare Minister to form a committee and conduct an investigation into the allegation.
