'Mishaps at rly crossings due to rash vehicle drivers'

Published on:

Train services in Dhenkanal-Sambalpur rail line were affected due to the accident at an unmanned level-crossing at Dhalpur in Dhenkanal district on Wednesday and the subsequent public demonstration on the rail tracks.

An East Coast Railway (ECoR) Press release here said it is revealed that most of the accidents at the unmanned level-crossings happen due to the negligence and reckless driving by the drivers of the road vehicles who do not observe mandatory signs, signals and basic traffic safety rules as per Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Section 161 of the Railway’s Act, 1989.

The ECoR is regularly organising social awareness campaigns to educate road users throughout the year particularly at level-crossings through intensive campaigns in various media like newspapers, television and radio and distributing posters and leaflets and holding various short films, the release added.
