The Commissionerate police after scrutinising the CCTV footages on Tuesday identified the miscreants who had looted cash and other valuables from the car of BJD MlA Byomkesh Ray in the city on Monday.
The police said the miscreants seemed to be from outside the State. Police sources said Chandbali MlA Ray had parked his vehicle at Master Canteen Square and gone to attend a candlelight rally organised by the BJD to appeal for peace in the riot-torn Bhadrak town.
However, his driver, who was sitting in the car, was approached by some unidentified miscreants. They said to him that his money had fallen in the ground. When he got down from the car, the miscreants decamped with cash of Rs54,000, a suitcase and other valuables.
later, the MlA filed a case with the Kharvel Nagar police.
The sensational robbery in a bustling place like Master Canteen Square has once again brought to the fore the lawlessness prevailing in the city’s railway station area. Despite frequent loots and snatchings, the cops’ lax attitude has irked local residents.
