The city police continued to be clueless about the identities of the two miscreants who looted a car after opening fire at its driver pointblank on Wednesday morning. The incident happened at around 6 am just 50 meter from the Purighat police station.
“We have registered a case, and a special team is investigating into it,” said city DCP Sanjiv Arora, adding that the police have recovered the motorcycle of the miscreants and a bullet case from the spot.
According to the police, the driver of the car belonging to a travel agency was waiting near the police station for his passengers. The two unidentified persons coming by a motorcycle dragged the driver out of the car and decamped with the car after firing at him.
The driver, identified as one Ranjit Mahapatra, sustained a bullet injury in his right thigh and was admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital here, police said.
