IIC Bijaya Ketan Bishi and two other police of Gurudijhatia police station under Athagarh subdivision were injured and their vehicle was damaged by mob at Kumarpur village on Wednesday night.
According to report, getting information that criminal Asima Beura of Kumarpur village against whom the police have issued arrest warrant, was present in the village, the police team had rushed there to nab him. Beura was involved in blazing a thatched house of Kumarpur Harijansahi.
The police were successful in arresting him at about 9.30 pm, but while bringing the accused in their vehicle, some of Beura’s supporters attacked the police in which at least three policemen were injured. They also torched the vehicle.
Taking advantage of the situation, Beura fled the spot. On information, the Cuttack SP sent some additional forces to the village but by that time, the culprits had fled. Three platoons of police force, after a search operation in the village, were successful in arresting five accused persons later, told IIC Bishi.
Meanwhile, as forces remain deployed in the village, many male members are hiding apprehending arrest. Some female and children of the village squatted before the police station, demanding an end to the police atrocity.
