Members of the Brahmapur Press Club and other organisations staged a dharna at the Gandhi statue at Gandhi Nagar here on Friday protesting the ill-treatment meted out to a news reporter, Bishnu Prasad Patro, by the Nilakantha Nagar Shishu Vidyamandir committee’s former member Narayan Panda recently.
Panda abused Patro using slangs while the latter had gone to the school for news collection on May 13. local MlA DR RC Chyaupatnaik, mediapersons and noted persons of the city have condemned the act of Panda.
The agitators too demanded stringent action against Panda and a proper inquiry into the alleged irregularities committed in the school.
Among others, Forum for Ganjam chief Sudhir Rout, Mahan Sangha chief Abani Kumar Gaya, senior lawyer Shiva Prasad Mishra, Ekaki chief Trinath Maharana, Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel Multi-purpose Sanga president Ramkumar Patra, BJD Ganjam district general secretary Pramod Maharana were present.
