The Brahmapur Childline saved a minor girl from marrying in Palur village of Mantridi gram panchayat under Ganjam district’s Rangeilunda block on Wednesday.
“On being informed in toll-free number 1098, we along with police and CDPO staffs went to the girl’s house and school and verified her age. We found she is just 15. We then asked the parents and the community to ensure that the girl is not married before 18 years of age. They then gave us an undertaking in this regard,” said Childline director Sudhir Sabat.
The parents had made all preparation to marry off the girl on Wednesday. The team which visited the village and the school comprised Rangeilunda CDPO office-in-charge Bhagyalata Patro, Golanthara PS IIC Alok Jena, Sarbeswar Mohapatro, Pranati Kaur and Kalan Kumar Singh of the Childline and CTP CDPO Siba Prasad Rath.
