A 14-year girl, who had reportedly gone missing eight days ago, was shot dead at Arada Bazaar under the Sahadevkhunta police station in the district on Saturday.
It was suspected that the minor girl, a student of Class-IX, was killed over a love affair.
Sources said the girl had eloped a relationship with a youth, identified as Shahbad, some eight days ago. However, the youth on Saturday informed the family members of the girl that she was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants.
Later, the family members of the girl rushed to the spot and informed the police. The Sahadevkhunta police rushed to the spot and sent the girl’s body for postmortem.
“She had eloped with the youth last week; and since then I was not in touch with her. He (Shahbad) yesterday called up to inform about my daughter’s death,” said the father of the girl.
As the girl also had injury marks on her head, hand and neck, a forensic team has started an investigation into the incident.
Based on the complaint from the minor girl’s father, police have detained Shahbad and his father.
“The girl’s father has accused Shahbad and his father of being involved in the murder. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” said Baleswar SP Jugal Kishore Banoth.
