A two-year-old girl was killed and five other persons were injured when the car by which they were travelling skidded off the road and plunged into a canal at Oliapatna under the Khantapada police limits in Baleswar district on Saturday afternoon. One Prafulla Dalei was coming to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here for treatment of his daughter Shivangi. His wife and son and friend Ratnakar Pradhan were accompanying him in the car. Midway, the driver lost control of the car, following which it hit a divider and fell into the canal.
Prafulla’s daughter and Ratnakar’s son sustained critical injuries. Some villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the injured family members from the canal. The victims were rushed to the DHH. However, Shivangi died on the way to the hospital. The minor boy was later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
