A four-year-old girl was allegedly sacrificed at Balisara village under the Biswanathpur police station in Kalahandi district. The deceased was identified as Indu Majhi.
The girl was allegedly murdered on Tuesday night and the matter came to light after her family members lodged a police complaint on Wednesday.
According to reports, parents of the girl, Sandhru Majhi and wife Mati, had gone to a nearby village on the fateful day. During night, unidentified miscreants abducted Indu while she was sleeping along with her elder brother Krushna.
On Wednesday morning, her body was found lying in a pool of blood on the outskirts of the village. Police suspect that the girl was killed for the purpose of human sacrifice or sorcery.
A case in the connection has been registered at the Biswanathpur police station and investigation is underway. On the other hand, locals have demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and stringent action against them.
