Minister Arukh's brother attacked in Ganjam

Police on Thursday detained a person for attacking Birendra Arukh, brother of Rural Development and Cooperation Minister Bikram Arukh, at Gochhabadi Square in Aska on Wednesday night.

Sources said a miscreant attacked Birendra, who is president of the Aska Central Cooperative Bank, with an iron rod when he was returning home from the bank in Jagannath Prasad area.

“While I was returning from bank, suddenly a person stopped me and hit the windshield of my vehicle with an iron rod. I received a grievous head injury since. I was sitting on the front seat. But fortunately, some of my colleagues rushed me to the Bhanjanagar hospital,” Birendra said to media.

However, the BJP has strongly protested the detention of the accused Raju Pradhan, a BJP supporter, by the police. Hundreds of party workers staged a road blockade at Gochhabadi demanding arrest of Birendra himself.
