Though the MCl management has agreed to provide rehabilitation to a deceased a worker of Talcher who was killed in a road accident, the demand to employ a family member of the deceased has been dubbed illegal and unacceptable.

Suman Behera, Electrical Helper, an employee of MCl Ananta OCP of Bharatpur Mines had reported for duty at 7 am and thereafter had left work unauthorized and met with a fatal road accident near the Talcher Bye-pass road outside the mining premises recently.

In an FIR copy filed with the Inspector-in-charge, Colliery police Station, Handidhua, the body was transported to the Time Office, by a mob led by local MlA Braj Kishore Pradhan, TKKMS (BMS) secretary Biswanath Behera and Sarpanch Ghantapada Manoy Sahoo, among others.

They demanded for immediate provisional appointment to the unmarried sister of the deceased and held siege to the mine works.

The company management offered to extend all legal and legitimate terminal benefits which were turned down. Eventually the mob turned violent in the presence of the SDPO, Talcher.

Meanwhile, the incident resulted in stoppage of total mining operations leading to huge losses to the company. Besides due to halt in transportation of coal from Bhubaneswari OCP, Bharatpur OCP and Ananta OCP to the railway sidings, all dependent power plants are facing dry fuel shortage.
