'Minimise corruption, raise State's economy'

Minimisation of corruption would definitely help in the improvement of the State’s economy, said chief guest Dhenkanal SP Basant Kumar Panigrahi at a function here to observe the Vigilance Awareness Week.

The Odisha Vigilance has secured second position in the country, next to Maharashtra, in effectiveness and efficiency. Awareness is necessary for security of life and property. Unless a man is tortured by an official he never seeks help for setting a Vigilance trap, Panigrahi added.

Senior journalist Pradyumna Prasad Rath said corruption is an ailing mindset of man. Senior scribe Krushna Kumar Mishra opined that corruption is rampant as cost of living has gone up.

Former Minister Nabin Chandra Narayandas said corruption is rampant in every sector and it is not easy to root it out, but attempts should continue.

Dhenkanal ADM Deepti Ranjan Pradhan sought public cooperation to root out corruption. Among others, Dhenkanal Sub-Collector, DSP Vigilance and DIPRO also spoke on the occasion.
