The 12-hour BJP hartal had led to a total shut-down of the coal city here on Saturday as schools, colleges, markets, shops, courts, banks and other financial institutions had downed their shutters.
The transportation of coal by rail and road was fully stopped and the production of coal in lingaraj , Ananta, Bharatpur , Balaram and Hingula mines of the Mahanadi Coalfields limited (MCl) was halted due to the non co-operation of the employees on duty. Passenger trains and buses were not running only except ambulance and milk vans. The bandh was led by BJP leader Kalandi Samal, Jajati Pattanaik, Dayasagar Mishra, Prakash Moharana, Kalandi Pradhan, Jitendra Das, Bichitra Das, Rajendra Singh, Naresh Pradhan, Chittaranjan Pradhan, Manoranjan Pradhan, Rangadhar Nahak, Himanshu Sahu, Biranchi Pani, Bulu Mishra, Prasant Nanda and Kalandi Behera.
