Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Wednesday morning paid a surprise visit to the District Headquarters Hospital here to take stock of the service provided to the patients.
Minister Nayak visited several wards, hospital outdoor, Red Cross blood centre and reviewed the RSVY and free medicine distribution. He also discussed with the patients.
Nayak showed his displeasure following two out of three doctors, who were on morning shift duty, were found absent during his surprise visit. He also found several para medical staff and staff nurses were not in their duty place. As a result, the Health Minister directed the district Collector and the CDMO to issue so cause notices to the absentees.
The Minister , during his visit, came to know that the State Government sponsored free medicine distribution has become a farce in his own district as the doctors were not prescribing the medicines ,which were available in the hospital and meant for free distribution. Nayak asked the CDMO to take steps by directing the doctors to encourage the patients to take free medicines.
The Minister showed his anger as the health service at the hospital had gone to its nadir and directed the CDMO to streamline the health service.
Nayak also directed the SP and SDPO to take action against the brokers and some corrupt officials of the DHH for diverting the poverty stricken patients to nearby private clinics.
