In view of price rise, the State Government has increased the prices of Mid-Day Meals being given to stundents in primary schools under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
While the Government increased from `4.21 to `3.31 per meal for the lower primary school, it increased from ` 6.29 to `6.43 for upper primary schools.
Now the State Government would bear 40 per cent of expenses instead of 25 per cent. The rest 60 per cent would be borne by the Centre.
Currently, about 91 lakh children are being served MDMs in around 63,000 schools and a total amount of `800 crore is being spent per annum for implementation of the scheme.
