The Malkangiri district administration has rejected the mass resignations tendered by 66 elected panchayati raj (PR) members of Kalimela block last month. At a meeting here on Wednesday, district Collector M Muthukumar informed the PR members that the mass resignations submitted to the Kalimela Block Development Officer were in gross violation of the Odisha Gram Panchyat Act, which has laid down the procedure to be followed for tendering resignation.
As proper procedure was not followed by the PR members, including ward members, sarpanches and ZP members, their resignations were not accepted, they were told. Informing the decision, the Collector told the PR members to work for people by fully utilising the funds sanctioned by the Government to ensure development of the area.
