Metal detectors at Puri temple defunct

A day after Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) UN Behera visited the Shree Jagannath Temple at Puri and took stock of the CCTV cameras and other security arrangements for the ensuing Nabakalebar festival in July next year, it was learnt on Tuesday that two metal detectors installed at the Singhadwar (lion's Gate) are lying defunct.

It could not be confirmed since when the metal detectors have gone out of order posing a threat to the safety and security of the shrine and devotees.

However, Puri DSP Jagannath Pradhan admitted the lapse and said the two metal detectors developed technical snags on Monday, and a letter has already been written to the concerned authorities to replace them.

"If negligence of anybody with regards to the dysfunction of the metal detectors is found, appropriate action will be taken," added Pradhan.

The detectors are installed at the Sighadwar to prevent devotees from carrying any arms and ammunitions to the temple.
