Residents of the State capital city had a torrid time on Monday as the temperature soared to 39.7 degree Celsius. The sudden rise in temperature and the high humidity threw normal life out of gear.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 31 degree by 8.30 am, 37 degree by 11.30 am and 39 degree by 2.30 am, the weather office said.
The Regional Office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here said besides Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur recorded highest 39.6 degree, Chandbali recorded 39 degree, Hirakud 37.6 degree, Baleswar 36.4 degree and Keonjahr 36.2 degree.
Earlier, the IMD on Sunday had predicted that there would be no change in the maximum temperature during the next two to three days in the State. However, the weather office had predicted a rise in the maximum temperature by two to three degrees thereafter in the districts.
Keeping the heat wave conditions in mind the State Government had earlier announced morning classes in schools from April 10. But it seems kids would have to bear scorching heat even while returning home at 11.30 am, some parents said.
