Mercury rises: Poll maniac Govt forgets to take measures

Published on:

The election mania seems to have engrossed the BJD Government fully as it is yet to wake up to take preventive measures against the soaring temperature the State has been witnessing at many places, including Bhubaneswar, for the last couple of days.

The Government’s lackadaisical attitude has pained the denizens of the capital city more as the mercury has already crossed 41 degrees Celsius mark here. The Met office has also issued ominous warning that it could go up even further in the next couple of days.

Neither the Health Department and nor the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have bothered to make emergency provisions to provide drinking water to the people by opening water kiosks (Jalachhatra) along the busy thoroughfares and market places in the city.

Dr Surendranath Pasupalak, weather scientist at the Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) has predicted that the temperature might cross 43 degree Celsius mark in the city.Though Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra, in a recent order, had directed the district Collectors to take adequate measures to tackle the heatwave situations, there has been no action taken anywhere in the State as the district administrations are busy in the poll process.
