At the age of 20, when everyone enjoys life with friends and family, this ill-fated youth has been leading a cursed life inside the four walls of a room, with legs chained for the last one month.
His family wants to provide the much-needed medical treatment but in vain, thanks to poverty. Rajkishore Sahu, son of Mangalu Sahu, a resident of Gumurtula village in Mahada Gram Panchayat of Ullunda block here, was a normal child like others.
When Rajkishore became mentally ill, he started behaving weirdly. Fearing for his life if he was allowed to move freely, his family members confined Rajkishore to a room and fettered him. So, for the last one month, Rajkishore has been leading a cursed life inside the room.
With limited income, Rajkishore’s father, who is a farmer, has been maintaining his family along with his mentally sick son. “I have been struggling to make both ends meet,” said Mangalu Sahu.
When contacted, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Bijayalaxmi Guru stated that she has recently known about the plight of Rajkishore from The Pioneer correspondent. “I will tell exactly as to what can be done after seeing the patient’s condition. If required immediate steps would be taken for providing treatment to the youth and he may also be provided financial assistance from the Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF),” Guru said.
