The State Government has now planned to provide treatment to people residing in remote areas for mental illness through Smartphone.

For this purpose, the Health and Family Welfare Department would sign an MoU with the Bengaluru-based National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) in the presence of Minister Pratap Jena at the Secretariat here on August 10.

This would be the first ever initiative in Odisha through which doctors would be connected with a medical institution for advanced treatment of the patients suffering from various mental diseases.

The treatment would be available through Virtual Knowledge Network (VKN).

The agreement would be signed at expenses of Rs 70-80 lakh for the period of one year.

later, the treatment will be provided through Hub-and-spoke transportation model in which the SCB Mental Health Institute would be a Hub and each district will be a Spoke. The patients suffering from mental illness would not visit the SCB MCH, rather they would avail treatment on Smartphone every day.
