The only son of a poor elderly parents, who is 20- year-old and a mentally-challenged of Bonei area, has been chained for last three years.

The parents are unable to provide him advanced treatment, because they do not have money in hand. Recently, a social worker met the Bonei Sub Collector on Monday afternoon for financial assistance.

The parents are Raghunah Jena (70) and Pramila (65) while their ill-fated son is Swadhin (20). Raghunath and Pramila were blessed with the child after a long time after their marriage.

When Swadhin was five years old, he got an injury in his head. After some days of that accident, Swadhin was found mentally imbalanced. Swadhin was very good at studies when he was mental fit.

When Swadhin was studying in Gopinathpur upper primary school in eighth class, he was noticed completely mentally sick. Raghunath and Pramila have been struggling hard to cure their son. As they were dried of all money and did not find any improvement in the boy, they were compelled to chain Swadhin.

Now, both legs of Swadhin have been chained. The boy looks very weak and frail with his condition deteriorating every day.

After coming to know about this mentally challenged youth and his poor parents, social worker Santanu Kusum met Raghunath and Pramila and their mentally challenged son. He took them to Bonei Sub Collector Swadha Dev Singh and requested her for financial assistance for the treatment. While requesting Sub Collector for Swadhin, Radhunath and Pramila could not control themselves and cried.

“We are going to refer him to the Rourkela Government Hospital under Odisha State Treatment Fund and from the RGH, doctors may refer him to Ranchi or Cuttack for his advanced treatment,” said Sub Collector Singh.
