A mentally-challenged girl was raped in the campus of a stone crusher unit near Tapang Chhak in the district on Wednesday morning.
Sources said that the 22-year-old girl, whose mother was employed in a stone crusher unit, was alone in her house when a driver of the same unit allegedly outraged her modesty.
The accused was identified as 45-year-old Akshay Kumar Swain, a resident of Bijipur in Astarang of Puri district. The victim, who is unable to speak could not raise an alarm to alert the neighbours. But she informed her mother about the incident when the latter returned home.
Later, the victim’s mother later lodged a complaint with the Sadar police based upon which the accused was arrested.
