Police arrested a 36-year-old married man for allegedly raping a mentally-challenged girl on October 9 at Nilakanthapur village under the Nikrai police station in Kendrapada district.
The accused, identified as Nabghan Moharana finding the victim gone alone in the backyard of his house sexually assaulted her. However, some locals rescued the victim and informed the Nikrai police. Later, the accused was nabbed and he along with the victim was sent for medical test, said Nikrai PS IIC Kabuli Barik.
On Monday, the accused was produced before the local court under Section 376(2)(l) of the IPC and he was remanded to judicial custody following his bail plea was rejected by the court, said Barik.
In another case, a 15-year-old girl was rescued by police, who was allegedly kidnapped by a 35-year-old youth on October 9 from the Nikirai PS area. The accused was also arrested based on the FIR of victim’s family.
