After knocking the door of the NHRC, the high profile Promodini murder and rape incident of Ganjam has now reached the IG (SR) for justice.

BJP leader social activist and lawyer Srikant Padhi accompanied by deceased’s mother Rama Nayak submitted a memorandum to IG (Southern Region) Satyabrat Bhoi here on Saturday demanding an impartial and expeditious probe against the alleged murder and rape case.

Reacting to the deliberate delay in probe, Padhi said that the rape and murder of 22-year-old Promodini Naik is another case of atrocities against women under the BJD rule in Ganjam.According to information available, Promodini along with her mother had met her friend for some work at 8 am on May 10 this year and around 10 am, she was seen going for a bath and also to clean her clothes at a canal nearby her paddy field Kanteijati Nal.  Thereafter, she was found untraceable. As a result, her mother being mentally upset looked out for her whereabouts with the help of local people but in vain.

Later, the mother found body of Pramodini with multiple injuries floating on a 3ft deep water in a nearby canal, said deceased's mother Rama Nayak.Though four and a half months have already been elapsed, no tangible progress is visible in the investigation so far, Padhi alleged.

Sources also said that, the local police in the process of their investigation reportedly found a pair of male sandals and clothes from the incident site which were lying close to the deceased’s body. Hence, it is a clear case of rape and murder, Padhi said.
