Meira Kumar won't visit State

Published on:

Though there were speculations here on Friday that the UPA’s Presidential nominee Meira Kumar would reach here on Saturday to meet the Congress MlAs, State Congress leaders denied such reports.

The speculations followed a report that the New Delhi security authorities had informed the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for making security arrangements for the former lok Sabha Speaker’s visit.

While  PCC president Prasad Harichandan, leader of Opposition in the Assembly Narasingha Mishra and Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said that they were ignorant about Kumar’s visit, another State party leader, Bhakta Charan Das, who was in New Delhi, ruled out any programme of Meira Kumar in Bhubaneswar,

Notably, Kumar’s earlier scheduled visit here a few days ago had been cancelled.

According to political circles, Kumar refrained from coming to the State in view of the bitter feud between the PCC leadership and

party MlAs.
