Mega nurseries would be set up in every district of the State from next year, and gradually the programme would be extended to every block. Besides, 12 crore saplings would be distributed to increase the green cover, said Principal Secretary, Forests and Environment RK Sharma on Tuesday here.
Speaking on the theme ‘Eco-based adaption’ at a function to celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, Sharma informed that out of the 12 crore saplings for distribution, five and a half crore would be provided to the public to increase the green cover,
He said that in order to combat pollution, mass transportation like the City Bus Service is being expedited in different cities of the State. Use of lED streetlights is being promoted which can decrease pollution by one-fifth compared to the present position where the ordinary lighting system exists. He also stated that land should be climate-proofed, for which a sustainable land management support is being mobilised. Massive plantation can only check soil erosion.
Chief Conservator of Forests JD Sharma said that in order to arrest global warming and rising temperatures, which has of late turned into a big threat to mankind, every effort should be made to prevent the environmental degradation.
Among others, many NGO activists, Eco Club members and senior officials of the Forests and Environment Department were present on the occasion. Chief Conservator of Forests (Monitoring, Evaluation
and Internal Vigilance) AOF Batla delivered a vote of thanks.
