Meet on Minimal Invasive Cardiac Surgery at KIIT

Published on:
A live Workshop on Minimal Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) and CME was held at the Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital, which is attached to the KIMS here, on Sunday. The workshop, organised by the CTVS Department of the KIMS, was attended by more than 150 cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, cardiologists and cardiac anesthetists. The CME was inaugurated by KIIT and KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, who also felicitated eminent cardiologist Dr JP Das and cardiac surgeons Dr Kailash Biswal and Dr Pitambar Satapathy.
MICS is considered to be one of the most shouted techniques among cardiac surgeries in the recent past. Cardiothoracic Minimal Invasive and Transplant surgeon Dr AGK Gokhale said it is a kind of surgery where surgeons perform heart surgery through small incisions in the right side of chest, as an alternative to open heart surgery. Surgeons operate between the ribs and don't split the breastbone (sternotomy), which results in less pain and a quicker recovery for most people, he added.
